Water bottle cage system for frames without mounts

I've got the Twofish system. It works well enough but wondering what else people are using for frames without water bottle mounts/ bosses.

This is for a non metal frame with a rectangular cross-section so looking for something that can disperse the pressure better than a cable or zip tie would.

I don’t know if you ever found a solution. What were the issues with Twofish?

I’ve got an older frame and was planning to use the Twofish adapter as well. But when installing, I will wrap the frame in hockey tape, use several wraps of electrical tape to initially attach the adapter, then the Velcro strap on top of that. That should keep it from twisting, I hope.

On another bike, without mounts on the bottom side of the downtube, I mounted a larger pump just by zip tying the pump mount, then several wraps of electrical tape. It’s on a mountain bike and has held so far.

Sounds like you need some 3D printed clamps.

Any love for stem pouches? I have a blackburn one and it works pretty well. Sometimes my knee hits it when I'm out of the saddle though.

I would consider self-vulcanizing silicone tape (like ESI finishing wrap) instead of the hockey and electrical tape. Clean removal and has enough give and stick to provide a good platform.

Good tip. I’ll check that out. Maybe a wrap of the finishing tape, then hockey tape over that. I like the how grippy the hockey tape is. Hopefully that will keep the bottle mount from rotating.

Some years ago, I bought clamps for the purpose. Even a hose clamp is better than tape.

I think he's just a retired guy that tinkers with bikes in his spare time. Come to think of it, I believe there was another guy on the forum who's retired and tinkers with wheels too. The chances of both being forum guys are about as rare as Robert being your mother's brother.

I use DMR hinged clamps in 31.8 and then put a Shimano 31.8 to 28.6 adapter to protect the paint on my older Columbus SL frames that only have one water bottle mount.

You can get the clamps in 28.6 (actual size) if you want, I just choose the larger one and the rubber shims.
