OT: Baseball Proposal

So this article came out: https://sports.yahoo.com/heres-worst...195232874.html

Quote:
According to Eisen, MLB teams would be able to bat whoever they wanted as the first three hitters in the ninth inning if they’re trailing in the game. Anybody. Just toss the lineup card out the window. It doesn’t matter if it’s your No. 8 hitter’s turn, put up your cleanup hitter and see what happens. But only in the ninth inning. Here’s how Eisen explained it on his show:
Discuss amongst yourselves

Good way to ruin the game. If baseball really wants me to stop watching, this would help. So stupid.

Paul: "And here we are, Phil, approaching the 1km banner...this should be a really, truly, really fantastic finish on the Alpe d'Huez, Phil!!!"

Phil: "Yes, indeed. It certainly promises to be wonderful! The riders have all pulled off to the side, and now here come the team cars, with their "Final K riders" aboard. I see Peter Sagan hopping out of the Bora car. He looks incredibly well-rested, as well he should, having ridden only a total of 18 km so far this entire Tour, and yet having won 17 stages!!!"

Paul: "Yes, Phil...that one flat on the run-in to Mont Ventoux which allowed Kittel to pip him was extremely unfortunate, Phil...."

Phil: "Yes, when Kit....And there we have it! Without even slightly stretching the elastic Peter Sagan has won yet another Tour stage!!! He really made it look so effortless!!! Incredible!!!"

Part of the drama of baseball is managing the lineup and the limited substitutions available.

What’s next, brining back relief pitchers to pitch to specific batters (lefty-righty type stuff)?

Dumb idea.

Two thoughts really.

1. Sports are not some sort of sacrosanct institution, with their rules indelibly inscribed on an ancient papyrus. They are an entertainment product, and rules are frequently changed and/or selectively enforced for the purpose of enhancing the entertainment value. So, treating this proposal as blasphemy, and an affront to some legacy is sort of misguided. If it were adopted, it would eventually become just another wrinkle like the DH is in the AL.

2. This particular rule, while it may make things more exciting, doesn't really address the underlying reasons that baseball viewership is declining. Rather than trying to extend the game, maybe they should shorten it to 7 innings, alter the strike zone (either to encourage more hits to increase excitement, or more strike outs to shorten games) and cut the time between innings...

That 9th inning any batters thing is just about the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Rich Eisen works for NFL Network. I would suggest his employer fix its debilitating head injuries before he worry about baseball.

The pitch clock doesn't seem like that bad of an idea to me, but I like baseball now.

This will never happen. Never mind fantasy baseball, Rich Eisen qualifies as a fantasy announcer.

Here's the worst idea in baseball that you are ever going to hear

Headlines to the copy pretty much sum it up.

I'd say the worst idea was one we didn't get to hear: "let's use new baseballs for only the world series and tell nobody"

Why not just let the same batter hit for 9 innings? Same principle. Stupid.

It has declined a bit..still up around the 73,000,000 mark for paid attendance and often right up there on TV for local markets.

I think the season is too long but the game is fine as it is..It's called a 'past time' for a reason, you go to the ball PARK..it's a game of inches and shouldn't be rushed, IMHO.

4 teams each league(3 division leaders and 1 wild card)...they play 3 games instead of 5...then the pennant games-5 games..then the series..Geez, right now it's next month thru October..
