I've been up that hill . . .

. . . on the east side two years ago, and it's damn steep! Road starts out good, but then deteriorates into single track, then unrideable until you get to the Lake Awosting road. Angry, I showed you guys where we came in on that ride on that spur trail to Mud Pond.

It also looks like the west loop on Adam's route uses that Smiley Carriage Road that's closed for renovation right now.

Fun times yesterday, really amazing place to ride.
Started out just slightly chilly but warmed up nicely
It was great meeting everyone and thanks to Dave for planing and leading the ride and taking great photos.

@Angry Scientist I was riding my L'Avecaise, but with 42 mm Soma Cazadero knobbies which were pretty much a requirement. I've done the first part of my route ie the steep climb, on 42 mm Gravelking slicks as well and got up it but it worked much better on knobbies. There were 5 of us, and 4 of us on similarly specced 650b knobby tire road/rando bikes. The 5th guy didn't really know what he was getting himself into and was on a 700c 32 or 35mm Paselas and it was a lot harder going for him. I doth contest it is rideable, but is much more mtb trail than gravel grinding.

And yes the west loop from mile 9 - 10 is the under construction Smiley Carriage Road. Mile 10 - 12.6 is the roughest part and is just abandoned jeep trail for half of it and overgrown hiking trail for half of it. Probably 1/2 mile of walking was necessary.

For a really tough and unridable challenge, try coming up Smiley Carriage Road from the other side, starting in Ellenville and going up the ridge on Smiley.

I'd love to . . .

. . . but they have the whole thing under construction for renovations. But once it's done it looks like a good ride. Park in Ellenville, ride up the hill and spend the day, then fly down the hill back to town where there's a couple of good restaurants on Main Street.

Had a blast yesterday riding in Minnewaska! Really an amazing place to spend the day exploring many different trails and awesome views. Even though we had cross bikes, I saw a few mountain bikes out there as well. I could definitely see shredding some trails on a 29er hard tail up here. Big thanks to Bumble Bee for giving us the tour yesterday!!!

its true, it will probably snow there this weekend but it could melt by xmas. I really was hoping for a snow free xmas week.
