Skinny Steely Build Options

So, I decided to go ahead and keep the Boulder Road Sport, and give it a slowish build over the Spring while styling on my Hampsten on the odd sunny days and commuting through this crap weather on the incoming disc'er.

I'm stuck with a conundrum on it though. Do I go retro-mod and silvery? Retro silvery? Mix? Or straight modern?

Here's how I see the different builds shaping up -

(1) Retro-mod: Athena/Centaur/Potenza 11 silver stuff with the Grand Cru brakes, Steelman stem, Nitto bars and post, CK silver headset, and silver H+ wheels from Binxywarrsoul if someone else doesn't get em first.

(2) Retro: Some mix of silver Chorus 10 with an IRD Defiant crank, or a Racing Triple setup, or maybe even some DA7700 with DT shifters, and all the rest the same as the retro-mod.

(3) Mix: '14 Chorus 11 group, the Grand Cru brakes, the silver finishing kit same as (1) and (2), and some black hub/rim silver spoke combo wheels to tie things together - probably the Record/TB-14 wheels MuffinMan has.

(4) Modern: '14 Chorus 11, black TRP brakes, Superleggera stem, carbon bars, carbon post, and some all black wheels - something on the lighter side. Keep the silver HS, seatpost clamp, and put some Nitto R cages on there.

Part of me wants to test out this frameset as apples-to-apples with my other modern bikes as possible to see whether it can hang per the ad copy. And part of me wants to build it more as a cruiser/casual bike that's polished and pretty.

Thoughts?

Oh, and for now I’ve got it safely outta-sight...important since another one is coming in this weekend.

What frame? Nothing to see here...move along.

It’s harder to nail down the “N” if you keep some in boxes and spread the others throughout the house..

Hampsten is definitely staying as-is.. The '14 Chorus 11 group is an extra, not a cannibalization from the Hampsten.

The wonderful thing about a steel frame is that it looks good no matter how you dress it up, or down.

On a steel frame:
I would call 9 speed blocks or less a retro build; 10 speeds off the down tube would be crypto-neo-retro; while 10 on the down tube could be retro or neo-retro, depending on the brakes; and 11 speeds would be modern.

I can barely make sense of what I'm saying, however...

I just love steel frames!

I voted modern.

Anything silvery and cranks that aren't the most recent four-arm pieces (shudder).

I would build it with Dura-Ace 7700, TB-14's, etc. But it's your bike and those usually turn out great, so go for it.

Cinelli Campione del Mundo (46 c-c) if I remember right! That bike has the most drop of any of mine, especially ALL the way in those drops.
