Love this post!! It is pretty cool to have folks like this on our forum. The photo makes me want to ride a mountain bike - nothing more to say.

My only comment is that you two must've been sweaty as hell pedalling in jeans and jean jackets!

** I also love the fact that PS was out to ride a bike for fun in Mt Tam - better that than the many other things he could've been doing, so I give him credit for that!

Here it is.

as kids in the 70's we had no no idea what cycling clothes were. And we rode single track in forests of Chicagoland on Schwinn Varsities, Collegiates, StingRays etc

Oh to be a kid again--foolish and fearless, now just foolish.

One thing to remember is PS wasn't born when those early mtb were being ridden. I think it's great that he stopped by to see the origins of the discipline and got to talk the some of the founding fathers

I'm wearing the blue sweater and yellow hat, fourth from left. Joe has the green hat, two to the right of the flag. Gary Fisher is fifth from the right.

Edit: I also wrote the story the cover references.

That is why I asked the question above (#16). Sagan, not born at the time, not born in this country, not born into English, but born into (I think) also a high-intensity mtb culture, stopping by and clearly interested...how much did/does he know of the early US West Coast founders/masters?

Do you know all the names of those pictured? That would be great to see.
