Do you apply sunscreen under your Summer jersey?

I never did until a recent six hour ride in exposed 90ish degree heat. Now I have a nice “trophy” bib strap tan line on my back.
The jersey has an SPF of 30, FWIW.

Lesson learned.

No. Maybe I should. Never been burnt through a jersey, though. I do use 50SPF on my face, neck, arms, hands and legs though.

Some of the makers suggest that, e.g. Pactimo for the lightest weight mesh jerseys. I would prefer a slightly heavier sun shirt jersey than to put on sunscreen under my clothing. Sunscreen is amazing stuff, but that is some serious chemistry working the magic there.

Only for some jerseys and only early in the season. Once I've ridden enough in my summer jerseys, I don't burn on my back anymore.

I nearly always have on a baselayer under my jersey, so that and living near 47th parallel....I seem to be fine.

Sunscreen goes on arms, face, ears and neck.....

The jersey was the Isadore Climbers jersey, which is my favorite jersey. Extremely breathable. Cool in the heat and warm in cool weather. However, that breathability comes at a cost. It’s slightly perforated for ventilation - which also allows the sun in.

It wasn’t a bad burn - but it was disconcerting nonetheless. I usually don’t ride for an extended period of time in full sun. But I’ve learned a lesson for the next time it happens.

Is this another sponsored post?

I jest.

I mostly also have a base layer on actually - didn't think of that.

Always. I wish I had a photo of our group ride meetups where we form a circle and apply sunscreen to each other’s backs.

No, only on arms, face, neck and tops of legs.

For the first time, at the start of summer this year, the top of my legs were burned through my black lycra bib shorts after a long ride in the high 90's. I started putting sunscreen on the top of my thighs now when I wear those shorts. Never had an issue with my back.

I don’t but am aware.. I have tan lines on my back, my hands are white and my arms are brown up to the size large Rapha summer flyweight sleeve length. Same story for legs.

I hate sun screen, usually ride longer than it’s effective anyway, and am not a fan of sun sleeves though I’ll act it occasionally.

As I just mentioned, I’m ripe to have no skin left when I’m older.
