OT-Dusty Hill (ZZ TOP) bass player dead at 72
Saw these guys way back in 1976 on the Hollywood, Florida stop of "The Worldwide Texas Tour" on my 18th birthday. What a show! Held at the old Sportatorium next to the swamp (Everglades). Opened with the complete album side one of "Fandango". R.I.P Dusty and thanks for the great birthday party. Oh yeah...we were the car in front of the limo carrying the band and proudly had a Texas flag flying which Gibbons gave a thumbs up to.

RIP.
Never saw ZZ Top live, but I enjoyed their sense of humor (and my dad liked their Eliminator videos). This news reminds me of this profile of Billy from a while ago. It was probably a good time, hanging out with them. |

its nuts to think the three of them were in the same band with no lineup changes for over 50 years.

“el loco” is better than “tres hombres”

Aw man, that sucks!
ZZ Top is one of those bands that I always wanted to see but was never able to make it work for one reason or another when they were in the area. I'll be honest and say that I didn't follow much of their work post Eliminator, but I've got everything else. If you haven't seen the ZZ Top documentary on Netflix...you should, good stuff. Also worth a mention is Billy Gibbons jamming at Darrel's House. Rest in peace Dusty! W. |

Saw them several years ago and after the opening number, Billy Gibbons said “After five decades and the same three chords we’re still here!“

I think I'll remember that "Little ole' band from Tejas" by breaking out some vinyl. |

Loved the band from the first time I heard them - "La Grange" on AM radio on a car radio in the summer of 1973. I still drive and ride the road where I first heard that song. First saw the band when they appeared in Hawaiian shirts and long beards, circa 1980 at the Assembly Hall in Champaign IL. Last saw them at the Adler Theater in Davenport a couple of years ago.
I wonder if there is another group that has lasted 50 years with the original lineup. From what I read, it sounds like the band will carry on with Dusty's blessing. |

I was able to see them early, 1974, then again at Clapton's Guitar festival. They had a special chemistry and did not appear to have the drama that many bands have. 50 years jamming together, that’s really special.

Was never a fan especially after they became cartoon characters but respected that they had a definitive sound; esp with regard to Billy Gibbons tone which is rather iconic. No rock guitarist esp in a trio can shine without a great drummer. Enjoyed the Netflix doc. And to echo gothbrooks- same lineup, no drama.
