1976 documentary about bike racing in the Midwest

A link to this short documentary, Cycling Keeps Me Off the Streets!, was posted on the CR list.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6puGAwjdhoM

Featuring one of the best amateur American racers of the time, Mike Neel, and a new racer on Neel's team, Oliver Popadić. Neel turned pro later in 1976 and finished 10th in the World Championships.

Jim Ochowicz and John Howard also appear.

An extraordinary artifact. The print quality and sound reproduction highlight top-notch camera work. Mike Neel was my favorite American rider at the time (not counting Connie Paraskevin). Thank you for the link.

Well, that was fun. About the time that I quit racing--it all looks very familiar--especially the convo about who got lost and where the turn was for the course. It was all pretty rudimentary...

Wow! Some of those team sponsors are still around:
Turin, Oscar Wastyn.

I believe that's Jim Ochowicz.

Very cool. Those old school videos reflect a different world of racing and riding...

I wish there was an easy way to capture youtube videos and save them as mpg files for watching later.

Plex had a feature that allowed you to do exactly this, but they dropped it recently...

I've done some googling. Noe of the approaches seem straightforward, and I'm reluctant to load "non first tier" software vendor work on my Mac... Always concerned about what else that software might be doing when I'm not looking.
