Are nice vintage bikes selling these days?
I know there's a bike shortage but are they buying vintage stuff? I'm thinking about selling a few nice 80's bikes but I don't know what they're worth these days in all honesty.

You may or may not know before pandemic, the vintage bike market was really sluggish. This time last year a nice 80’s steel racer was probably commanding only 50-60% of the price it did 3-4 years before. I don’t think the pandemic bike boom has extended to the vintage bike market as much. My guess is people dipping their toes into bike riding don’t want down tube shifters and spouting brake cables. I’m not a bike flipper but just a vintage bike nerd so I’m always keeping an eye out for something cool.

In my opinion, the vintage market got a nice bump in the US when Eroica CA hit, and in the first 2-3 years of the event. Now, people who want a vintage bike have already snagged their one example. Collectors are continuing to age and Eroica isn't happening this year (at least as an organized event; they're doing a "challenge" that's set up for single riders or small groups).
I'd say the vintage market is distinctly down from a few years ago. |

I was helping few people buy bikes this summer and it looked like mid level stuff (think centurion with 600) got a covid bump. Higher end stuff didn’t seem to be impacted much and is down a bit from peak eroica.
