Frame was cracked almost completely around the rear part of the top tube. Dave said they originally used a thin tube there knowing that it wouldn't last forever. I believe he replaced it with something with thicker walls.

If you do some brazing you can reinforce that thing from the outside IMO, and do like a tapper like of finish?? too much of a work to just replace the tube. IMO.

We talked about an external repair but Dave decided to replace the tube. He said it was more work than he expected.

I've had bikes that I've never finished or taken off the stand for a while. Pretty sure this one sets the record for continuous time.
Hopefully done tomorrow. Really not much left and I'm happy with the build. Sorry, no Campy or silver bits. Out of white bar wrap. Thought for sure I had some. Last edited by gbcoupe; 11-15-2020 at 12:21 PM. |

Built this up as a winter Rando bike for a friend in Seattle.

Ti Seven - off-season love
The rains have arrived in PNW and out comes the fendered singlespeed. This customized titanium frame gets a bit of attention before hibernation.
Any feedback on the post color? Drive side is subtle...non-drive less so. |

Today I had this new find in the stand. Basically just going over it to see what I've got and then to decide how to build it back up. Hard to find a lot of info on these but should be around a mid 80's Columbus SL tubed bike.
Cleaned up the components today and swapped on a C.F. seatpost that will give me the setback I need on this with it's fairly steep angles. Also put on a favorite saddle for now and some light modern wheels. 20 lbs 6 ozs now but there will be more weight coming off when I put on a proper stem and smaller bars in my size. |
