Options for 'budget' allroad carbon disc forks

Hiya and thanks in advance for any recs!

So... I'm building up a steel disc bike and I'm pretty stoked about the bike but I've really been slacking on the build. I'm not a huge weight weenie but I'd like to negate some of the weight related compromises as best as possible.

The frameset is a genesis equilibrium, which I bought a bit ago with a goal of having an all weather bike to complement my caad13 rim brake bike and also to have a slightly less aggressive bike for more chill solo and group rides.

The stock fork weighs about 750-800 grams though, which is a bit nuts to me, but it's got an al steerer.

I'm trying to look for budget options for an 'allroad fork' with clearance for 32, preferably 35mm tires. I'm happy to look used as well, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. I'd guess most full carbon stuff is more like 450ish grams which is so much better. I'll happily post something in the classifieds when I have a bit of an idea what to look for.

I guess I can always just build it as is but I'd rather not deal with swapping hoses in the future, especially since the longgggg goal for this bike is commuter duty but that's a ways off and I can switch back to the oem fork for that.

Do you know what axle-to-crown you need? It can vary a bit as you move from more road-oriented forks to burly gravel forks.

Looking at Enve's line-up (just as an example, since they have a spectrum of forks), the AR is 382mm, the Gravel is 395, and the Adventure is 398 or 406 depending on rake.

I looked at the geo for this frameset and it is using the same 50mm fork rake for all sizes where the HTA varies from 71 to 73 degrees. So you'd have an opportunity to dial in the trail and wheel flop with a new fork, and maybe the rake might want to be different.

If their geo chart is right, it's curious that the HTA for the medium is 73 degrees, which with a 50mm fork rake would be just what I'd look for, with a trail of 55mm. The larger sizes drop to a HTA of 72, raising trail/flop to 61/18mm.

Itd be good to figure out your bike's trail with the current HTA, fork rake, and tire size. Then you can determine what the trail would be with a new fork that has a different rake as well as A-C(which will change the frame's HTA).

Since you mention it being a budget focused fork, here are some that arent $500 or ENVE priced...

State Bicycle - $300 45mm offset, 396mm A-C
Columbus Futura - $385 47mm offset, 385mm A-C
Whisky No9 CXLR - $400 45mm offset, 395mm A-C
Whisky No9 Road+ - $407 51mm offset, 383mm A-C

If you end up wanting to spend 500+, there is the Wilde Waypoint fork. Wilde is owned by the guy that started AllCity.
Tapered- $525, 49mm offset, 398mm A-C
straight - $500, 49mm offset, 398mm A-C

Personally, I would email Fairlight and see when their Anraed 3.0 is back in stock.

You could always reach out to carbonda for the lowest pricing, I got a quote for 180 painted and shipped on their cfo606 fork a couple weeks back.

The frame size is a medium. I might have to play with a geo calculator to see how different options would affect trail and flop in order to keep things atleast close to similar.

Wow thanks! I used to have a strael 2.0 and wouldn't be doing this build at all if I had a 3.0 instead. That fork looks great. Honestly the best of the lot is that genesis fork. It would likely have been perfect but a lot of these are out of what I want to budget for the build so I'm going to look on the used market when I figure out what I need.

That one's unfortunately heavier than I'd want.

Their road fork and the 505 might actually work though!

Update: my measurement gives me approximately 400mm for axle to crown with a rake of 50 on this fork.

How would I keep the geometry similarish or the same if I move to something with a lower rake as most things seem to be, including the Enve allroad options.

Your size medium frame has a 73 degree hta.
So 73deg hta, 50mm rake, and 35mm tire = 55mm of trail.

If you get a fork with 400mm A-C and 45mm of rake and use a 35mm tire, you will end up with 60mm of trail.



If you get a fork with a different A-C length, that will change the head tube handle and the bottom bracket height.
A 10mm difference in A-C results in about .5degree of head tube angle change.
So a fork with 385mm A-C will make the head tube angle about .75degree steeper.

^ all that to say that a fork with 385mm A-C and 45mm rake will adjust your HTA to 73.75 and you end up with the same trail number as your current fork- 55mm of trail.

Didn't know that but makes a lot of sense given how good of a swap it is for AC frames. I'd like to put one of those on my Gorialla Monsoon but can't stomach the price. It would shave about 2lbs off the bike compared to the stock steel fork.

Just got the spec sheet from Genesis.

Axle to crown is 397mm. Rake is 50. Trail listed as 60.

Check eBay - there is a seller blowing out Enve forks that were stock on the last gen Ibis Hakka. I think the specs are pretty much what you are looking for. Plus... color options!
