Colnago C40 MKIV
I had my eye on this one that was being offered locally for awhile. Once I sold three other rides I allowed myself to pull the trigger. Picked it up yesterday. It's not mint buy it is in great shape. Gave it a quick going over yesterday evening and then took it out for a little spin.
Don't mind the flat pedals on it right now. I'm recovering from a total knee replacement. Still a few other things to sort out on this but all and all, it's good to go. How I brought it home: ![]() A couple from yesterday's ride: ![]() ![]() This morning's quick photoshoot: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

This is awesome. The paint on that frameset is in great shape! What a fantastic build - I love it!

Wow, what a bike
Well the replaced knee and legs are still not up to speed but a hard effort on this produced the best avg pace since I started recovering by a mph. Even better though was how good the bike felt under me. Smooth, responsive, light, and a total blast to ride! The feeling of the bike taking off out from under you when you stand is the best. I finally may have found a bike to rival my all time favorite.

The square taper Record CT crank is worth the price of admission alone.

I had a Colnago ct1 that gave that same feeling. Never had that with any other bike. It was a different feeling. Must be something to do with Colnago's geometry.

Another great ride today on this one. It never fails to prove how good it is each ride.. Fast and comfy and a pure joy to be on.
![]() ![]() In comparison, the last ride was on my Calfee Tetra Pro. It beat me up over the same basic route and at lesser miles. Still having a love/hate relationship with the Calfee. |

Landed some really great condition gold Shamal Ultra wheels today.
Mounted on some new GP 5000s tires with latex tubes and put them on the ol' Colnago. My other set of Shamal's are my favorite factory wheels and I'm hoping these will kick the great ride of this C40 up another notch. Not sure about the look but if they do improve the ride it'll tell me I need to find some black ones. Or leave these..... ![]() This sweet Italian is now down to 16 lbs 13 ozs. ![]() |

Yeah, leave the gold on there. Looks awesome and works great with the bike. Also Ksyrium SLs were my most hated wheelset. IMO they are too stiff and made every bike ride like crappola. Only liked 'em for cross because I could throw on extra wide rubber for the ride and they took a beating.

Better shot of the bike with the Gold Shamals on it.

On so many other bikes the gold wheels would be over the top, but this… this works. Colnago paint schemes are often a little much for my (admittedly rather pedestrian) taste, but the light blue scheme here is gorgeous.
Would love to see a video or article on the painting process on Colnagos of this vintage and similar. Can’t have been short, or cheap. Best of luck with the knee rehab! |
