The Rivendell bag is the best in my opinion because it sits completely flat, doesn't look ugly, and doesn't get as much spray from the road as a pannier. The other option is a front rack with a Wald basket, then you can just throw your laptop sleeve in the front with a net (Rivendell also sells a nice one).

I use this leather backpack from Von Baer. This one is really comfortable to wear and distributes weight evenly, so it doesn't feel like I'm carrying much at all. Plus, it keeps my laptop flat against my back, which is the most secure way to transport electronics when cycling, in my opinion.
