that is the great thing about D2R2, you can change what route you do till almost the end, you just want to let em know for certain ones because lunch is at a different spot and so they can plan but I think this year lunch will all be in the same place (beautiful covered bridge by the stream) so it won't matter and I bet they will let you change route till the day of.

Also, 16% grade?

There is higher grades than that even on gravel ahha. I think the 180k has a 28% grade or something crazy like that. You get of the bike you will be walking for a bit.

Can't make it, we'll be travelling, headed out to CO in the camper.

Always a great ride, regardless of the route.

Their web site says this fall.
I've met the founders, very good friends of a close friend. Did you know they are avid cyclists?

I'm planning on heading out and doing this for the first time pending the registration doesn't fill up prior to it opening to the general public.

I saw the comments about tire width but just wondering about tread. Is it better to run something smooth or something with some grip? Wasn't sure how much is on pavement vs gravel. I currently run 38c Gravel King SKs and didn't know if that would too sluggish if there are a lot of pavement sections.

38mm GK SKs are perfect. Don't change a thing.

I have been riding these roads since the late 60’s, they can easily be ridden with 25’s, average NE dirt roads, nothing challenging at all. I have not ridden them in the past 4 years since moving to Fort Collins and Atlanta, but can’t imagine what could have made the routes change to make them a challenge!

I did this once. Glad I did, but I ended up selling the bike as gravel is not my thing. Wonderful ambiance to this event. Very relaxed and you can start more or less when you would like around the designated time. Best to do this with friends. Nice feed at lunch and at the end. (The Mt. Washington feed, however, is tops.)

I rode with tires that were 40s. Big mistake as I felt like I was cycling thru sludge especially on the paved areas. I bombed down descents and could not figure out why I was passing so many people. Then I hit the washboards. That left me with a headache. Note to self: do not bomb down descents. I was grateful for a fellow cyclist who saw my front quick release was loose. Probably from the jarring and my fault for not tightening it enough to begin with.
I was surprised to see the folks with flats. Quite a few. I suspect pinch flats so be careful with tire inflation.

Is this a gravel bike ride only? Road bike with skinny tires (25c-28c) no need to apply?
I believe at least one person has done it multiple times on an old Raleigh Pro set up as a single speed (fixie?). Not sure 28s would fit that frame!
