You guys don't carry one of those ubiquitous black plastic valve tools in your kit? As an avowed tubular user I have to in order to squirt some sealant in a punctured tire but they actually weigh so little I put them in all my tool bags. Usually the problem with them is they're so small you have to remove everything in your bag to find them.

geeeez louezzz, this comes up pretty regularly, get a new, different pump...

That's an option. Another one is using the bleed valve on the pump hose as intended. I'm sure there's a video out there that illustrates how.
