One thing I love about the Morricone music and the Spaghetti Westerns was that he would record the music before the relevant scenes were shot and then they would play the music on set to make the mood.

Also, John Zorn has a great record from back in the day of Morricone music -- thttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuA-Pu4ubeg -- this was actually how I learned about Ennio Morricone originally.
That's awesome! I love it.

He really is responsible for cinematic music as an art form. Was truly unique in his ability to adapt the tools and mechanics of Opera and apply it too film in such an advantageous and transcending manner.

His employment of instrumentation... mixing classical, ethic cultural, electronic, and modern timbres is unparalleled.

What an incredible achievement.

Bravo Maestro!

A few years ago there was a performance in Brooklyn where he was conducting his songs - I would have loved to seen that.

RIP Ennio.. you gave a lot of beauty to this world.
both the film and the sound track are under-appreciated

What a prolific genius. He wrote memorable music for so many films that are forgotten today, e.g., Grand Slam, a heist film with an excellent cast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4CmDN4oV_M. I remember his score to The Sicilian Clan much more than the film itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwmdscZNTQU.

I love his sense of humor in scores like the one for Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OyP2fQRSzI. Great use of jew's harp, as in many of his scores.
