Any good new tail lights?
I need a couple tail lights for recent builds.
One at least will need to be seat stay mounted. Looking for daylight visibility and under $50 (about) each. Anything new in the market i should be checking out?

I’ve got a couple of the Trek/Bontrager cube-shaped lights and they’re actually pretty decent. Light and compact. Not sure about seat mounting. I’ve got seatpost straps and they’ve been pretty good, and a riding buddy reported that they’re plenty bright.

Lupine
Solid, well built, easy to work, easy to see. Pricey, but if this thing ever breaks, I'll replace it https://www.lupinenorthamerica.com/p...ht-tail-light/ |

Slightly over $50, but these are the brightest I’ve used.

Yeah, pnut’s Lezyne is piercingly light. But I say get a bunch of mounts and one RTL515 and call it a day.

Cygolite Hypershot 350 USB - crazy bright. Two LEDs, patterns. Only downside is micro-usb, not usb-c. Can be had for ~$50.

Very bright but battery life is so-so…I’ve become a Dinotte fanboy.

Garmin Varia, switch from bike to bike.....and don't worry about the money in the great big scheme of things.

Exposure tail lights are great. Good and bright and they have a ton of different mounting brackets.

I do have a RTL 515. Once it’s on 3 presses since I want it to only flash when a car approaches. I ride in a very low traffic area. Many times it will come on a while later and stay on. Even when I do the multiple presses multiple times. Eventually it will do want. What am I going wrong? The manual is very poor at explaining button pressing and the end results.

Been using a Blackburn Dayblazer for years, but I'm going to give Cygolite Hypershot a "shot"
(350 seems to bright, going to try the 200) . Last edited by Tony T; 09-15-2024 at 08:08 AM. |

Varia + Concentric Cycling
+1 for the Varia. As folks know, it is day-light bright, but the radar function is a game changer.
I have one and “cycle” it through my various bikes. The 3D printed mounts from Concentric Cycling are also worth considering for low-profile, solid, hassle-free mounting without shims etc. if you are switching the Varia from bike to bike. That Lupine looks pretty solid too - something I would look into if I wasn’t doing the Varia thing. MB |
