Yea, if that's the way that guy is going to ride in a city, it's only a matter of time until he got hit, that was some pretty irresponsible cycling, but no excuse to the driver she should have remained at the scene.
It's almost for sure she was drunk or high or something. That cyclist clearly ran the light and she probably didnt have time to see him coming the way he entered the intersection. She would not have been cited at fault in that situation, so the only reason she would have fled is if she didnt want to be popped for DUI. I agree that she should resign.

NYPost reports the cyclist was an ubereats worker. I think no one should be hit, but if the cyclist really was an uber eats worker, I think cities need to look at legislation on how to punish the companies. Or compel companies to enforce safer riding etc. Uber delivery times incentivize (almost compel) workers to run lights, mount sidewalks, go wrongway down one way streets. Driving in NYC is a complete nightmare these days. Throw in an electric bike and you have a kamikaze jockey. Last edited by verticaldoug; 07-29-2022 at 07:16 AM. |

She could have fled to avoid getting popped by a gangbanger. Not exactly a low crime area.

the guy ran a red, was stupid for sure but you can't just hit a person and go on with your day, that is imo way worst. Make sure the guy is ok, that was a pretty violent hit.
Also kind of amazing no one really came to check on the guy? And last, I have ridden in Jersey city and surrounding areas, I stayed in Jersey for a brief period while working in NYC and I will have to say it was probably one of the worst places I have ever ridden a bike through, truly dangerous some of those streets and the way people drive. It makes ridding through Manhattan a safe and pleasant endeavor. In a a few months I had a few close calls just ridding from my house to the train. |

It's one of those myths about Greater NY metro area. My daughter is statistically safer in East Village Manhattan then Ann Arbor Michigan. |

during the day that area is totally fine, I was staying about 5 minutes from there. Sure at night can feel a bit unsafe, I never had a problem but sure not a place I would choose to hang out when the sun comes down but during the day its totally fine and she would have been fine... but was hopping there was no cameras around and just brush this under the rug.

I agree that the his comment was very silly but there are some unsafe areas in Jersey city, its a bit different than East Village, the latter is very safe and has been for a while, Manhattan as a whole is safer than most places I have lived but Jersey city has some bad areas with a lot of crime, he is not wrong about that but during the day most of the areas are totally fine. |

For Robbery higher. It's more of a comment on how violent the US is as a whole. |

Run a red light, run the risk of getting blasted. Some cyclists can't seem to grasp physics. I have as much sympathy for that guy as I would for someone who crawled into a wood chipper to see why it was running slow.

do you think that "gangbangers" just go around randomly "popping" people?
