1 ship has delayed over 100 others!... UPDATE!
The Ever Given cargo ship has been stuck in the Suez Canal for a couple days now. Here's a pic of the area. 1 ship has backed up and delayed over 100 other ships. The screengrab, that's just the southern part of the Canal. The northern end, even more ships near Port Said. Craziness.

That thing is 1/4 mile long. Hard to comprehend a ship that huge when I think about how far down the road it would go if the stern was in front of my house.

Hard to believe we can build something that big that floats but not get it unstuck.

I would think the Suez Canal had a tug on call 24/7 for emergencies like this
EDIT: Oh wait I thought it was dead in water didn't know it was stuck as in run aground ...Wow |

The impact is far greater than 100 vessels.
Cargo ships are sailing around the southern capes at rates not seen in over a century.

'Evergreen' is the key to why the ship is stuck where it is.
Will they have to remove some of the containers from the ship to get it out of its current predicament? I wonder what may be inside... We may just find out. |

My family relocated between the U.S. and Asia twice. All of our stuff was on a containership and we had to live out of suitcases while we waited for our stuff to arrive. I really feel for the folks in this position. Even when the 100+ vessels make it through the canal, the ports of disembarkation are going to be backed up as fuuuuuuuuuu. And the intermodel trains and trucks. And the distribution/receiving centers.

When you look at Vessel Track, there are 8 tugs trying to move it.

yea- shes "hard aground," not getting out of there without some serious work.
this isnt actually the first time a ships run aground and blocked the canal.. fortunately, the whole canal is soft-bottom (and has to be dredged constantly, for sake o sand drift) - can you imagine if she wasnt just wedged in there, but breached her hull and had to be offloaded and refloated by a salvage crew? weeks, probably months there are bypasses that have been useful in situations in the past... unfortunately not where Evergreen wedged in |

Let's get down to the real concern - how many of our bike parts orders will be held up by this? Are my BTLOS wheels delayed?
They need a modern day Helen! |

If I heard correctly, it carries the equivalent of 10,000 semi-truck loads. There are very few ports capable of accommodating such a behemoth. The upside is that it's a very cost-effective way of moving cargo. The downside is now apparent.
