Performance means racing, for the most part. So get a bike from someone with a history or legacy in the sport. Or get a mass produced bike as that could be synonymous. As I see it your options are as follows:

Spectrum
Bixxis
Moots
Litespeed
Lynskey
Baum
IF - if you want a cross bike
Seven - as close as you can get to a factory operation

As you mentioned, budget is a consideration. So, for a new frame, the choice is pretty obvious Lynskey or Litespeed. Litespeeds are more flavor of the decade.

Surprised Lynskey and Litespeed are in this list. They are subpar compared to the rest. No comment on Bixxis as I dont know much about them.

i think if you're not looking for a bargain, and you're not interested in the fuss that surrounds custom bikes, a moots vamoots rsl is the best answer for a performance titanium road bike.

if you dont need some funky custom geometry, i dont see how you are going to get any better for a ti race bike than this.

Makes sense with the racing context- could use them as crit bikes and not have to worry so much if you crash.

Lance rode one and Eddy contracted with them. The top of the line Litespeed is pretty spendy.

I had Mike Desalvo build me one after a fitting from the boys at Spectrum.
He did a great job and it is 10 years old and still rides like a dream.
A friend had one built by Quiring a couple years ago and he is still banging it around the local ctit circuit. He is about 190/200# and had it built with straight gauge tubing due to him power and weight.

I have talked to a few people and ride with one who has a Wittson that he had built after a pro fitting and he says it is one of the best bikes he has had in his 50 years of riding.

Lots of great options you just have to nail down what you want out of the bike and get a current fit by someone who knows what they are doing.

I'm a big fan of the Moots Vamoots RSL. You can build it to be a 14 pound bike or anything heavier.

It's steady, beautiful and awesome to ride.

But don't buy it new. I bought my frame, fork and headset for $2200.

All that was before ABG bought them. Today's litespeeds are nothing like those. IOW, todays Litespeeds are not premium quality titanium bikes as they were in decades before.

I used to not get the appeal. Then I got a Moots Compact, which changed my attitude. There are prettier bikes out there, but when you're looking to buy a machine for riding, Moots makes some of the most well-rounded, no-nonsense bikes out there. The industrial aesthetic grew on me immensely once I realized what the deal was. It's a tool, not a trophy, which is how I think titanium bikes should be treated.
