26" Wheelset on a 53 tourer
Wondering how detrimental a 26" wheelset (respaced to 130mm)
would be on a frame with this geometry: It's a Cinelli Hobootleg https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-1hf4...899075.jpg?c=2 Or what handling effects would be felt - this build is going to be for city commuting to/from work. I'd rather respace the high end wheelset that I have, rather than buying another set of wheels. All positive feedback is much appreciated. |

How are the brakes going to work? Or is this the XS size that's meant to come with 26" wheels?

Ah I forget to mention the size: I am getting the 53cm/medium.
So am looking to see to what extent 26" wheels would throw off handling, or if at that size, there would not be much change? >As for brakes, I imagine that the Paul motolites would allow 26s or 700s to work. |

Any thoughts?

Can’t think of any non disc brakes that will work with 700c and 26” wheels.

the old old style paul BMX brake might allow you to switch wheelsize but i kind of doubt it

It could work but it'll take some experimentation/risk as nobody has done it before.
You might even be able to fit 26" into an older 700c/27" frame with super long reach rim brakes. Fatter than 26x2.0 will be close enough to 700c for handling IMO. |

As for geometry, you'd want to look at overall wheel diameter with the tires you intend to run and see how it lowers the bottom bracket height.

+1, downsizing wheels is not going to work on a canti frame.

The search for wide wheelset begins!

Promax has a product to do just this. It raises or lowers the canti studs by 15mm IIRC. Only caveat is the studs need to be removable to begin with.

I ended up getting a pretty good deal on a new DT swiss wheelset (700c).
Paul motolites would be good to run either 26" or 700c wheels in a frame designed around 26" - If I understood their video correctly. Now I have 26" wheels with dt swiss 240s hubs sitting around.... |
