Rear derailleur for non-standard shimano 10-speed drive train

I'm running DuraAce 10-speed (7900), except for the rear derailleur, which is a 9-speed XTR to accommodate an 11-32 cassette. It seems the rear derailleur is worn out, so I need to replace, but since they don't sell the XTR 9-speed anymore, I'm wondering what to get that would be comparable in terms of quality and weight? For example, can I use an XTR 10-speed rear derailleur?

You can't use a 10 speed MTB RD with 10 speed road shifters unless you add a WolfTooth TanPan or JTek Shiftmate adapter to match the cable pull.

Any Shimano 8 or 9 speed MTB RD will work directly with your shifters, and it should be pretty easy to find an XT or XTR if you post a "want to buy" ad in the classifieds.

The 9 speed XTR is a good choice, I have it on a bike with 5600 shifters. I think you might also look at the Shadow style XT 9 speed - I think it's the M772 model. I had one of those on a bke with 10 speed 6600 shifters.

I use XT M750 rear derailleurs on all my bikes for the same reason. There are always some available on Ebay, try there.

For the M750s, it isn't too hard to find something in good condition and NOS comes up on a regular basis, although often more a premium price. You might find the same for XTR.

Thanks guys! I'll try the shadow cage XT, which I found online NOS.

Isn't the Shadow the one that doesn't have a cable tension adjuster in back of the derailleur? If that's right, you'll probably have to install an in-line adjuster somewhere in the cable.

My wife uses this Deore with her Shimano Ultegra 6700 10 speed wide range triple. Works great.

For my 9 and 10 speed bikes I use my favorite derailleur of all time - The 9 spd Deore M591.

I think I have a 9 speed XTR or maybe XT? That I'd be willing to part with.

Probably, just like the XTR that I have on there now. Fortunately, my old litespeed as adjusters on the downtube.
