Just because MAVIC was sold isn't really a reason to not have their wheels. I mean, as soon as you buy something, that company could be sold. I use Ksyrium SLR GEN 1's and theyr'e pretty nice, easily the stiffest wheelset I've ever used.

If lateral stiffness isn't a priority then sure, DT internals are legendary.
thanks for sharing your insight as a wheelbuilder. Curious to understand how much lateral stiffness changes across hub designs for a given alloy rim. Does anyone have a link to measurements and real world experience?

Can Boyd Altamont be purchased as just rims?

Never mind - the answer is yes and they are pricey for ceramic coated...

I went to their website did not find that option. Also, what are Quest hubs?

I've built with their Quest hubs. Excellent hubs, I think better than DT and just as interchangeable with various endcaps.

I never see the appeal of the 240s other than ease of swapping endcaps/cassette carriers. Other hubs are easy to service. Other hubs have better flange spacing.

Have Boyd's w/ the coating held up over time for other folks? I have a set with barely any many miles on yet and like them a lot so far, and hope the finish holds up reasonably well.
They are on a bike that sees a lot of gravel so hope that doesn't cause the brake track to wear. It's also a canti-equipped bike which made it somewhat annoying to use the recommended Swissstop BXP pads. I had to also buy some TRP canti brake pad holders that would fit the BXP. Doable, but would have preferred to stick with the pads I was used to and not something so specific if I didn't have to. My understanding is other pads should work ok, but Boyd cautioned that I would be much less likely to maintain the ceramic coating.

I have Paul mini motos with Ultegra pad holders so I can use any pads. Different bike though.
