SRAM yaw 11spd FD on 10spd groupset

Hello Folks,

so i run 11 speed on one bike (etap), and 10spd on another (rival/apex). No issues, both work great, loving it.

However the Red FD on my etap has that "new" (for me) yaw FD that no matter what gear you're at, especially crossed-chain gears (11-36 or 52-26), there's no rub.

Question: will a 11spd yaw FD (rival, force, red) play well with a 10spd group? Right now the group is all set, and I run 10 spd KMC chains.

Thanks,

G

Yaw came out on the final generation of 10 speed Red, and I don't believe there was any change to the shifters. Should work totally fine!

It'll probably work fine. I've used 10spd SRAM shifters with a few different FDs without issue, including Shimano 7800. If I remember correctly, you'll have a useless trim stop in the shifter to click through, but that shouldn't cause any issues as long as it's setup properly for no tension and full tension on the cable.

+1. You'll be fine to put an 11sp yaw on there!

Yes—I run 22 Shifters and FD with both force and rival 10sp RD. Works like a charm.

Did it. Works better. If you’re 50/34, use the compact crank washer. Watch the setup video.

The only difference between sram 10 and 11 are the chains, cassette, and right shifter has 11 clicks.

Didn’t original sram 10 speed front derailleurs(pre yaw) have a trim click? If memory serves, they claimed old 10 would work with yaw 10, but to be fair I really don’t remember for sure.

It was the second gen red 10, I think 2012 or so. The updated ergo levers with the texture got the yaw and got rid of trim.

That’s what I thought. Sram said that if you had gen 1 10 speed stuff then the Yaw front derailleurs weren’t compatible. That being said, I never tried it so it could work just fine and sram was trying to upsell.

Trim or no trim, the 10sp shifter will work with the Yaw FD.

Chain ring spacing is the same?
