My saddle height is similar~80.5 to 81.5cm depending on crank length and saddle and such. Here are a couple of pics—ignore the ugly blue Pro test saddle (which I am finding comfy). I can’t remember how many spacers I have on the steerer. Cockpit is Ritchey Trail stem and Beacon bars.

I’ve got mine built up now with 700c wheels and have done a shakedown ride. Will post up in the gallery with a full report later. Running a very similar saddle height - 81.3 cm currently.

They measure a full 53mm on the super wide Ritchey rims. At lower pressures they feel both supple and fast on dirt and rough stuff. I was out again today on it for 40 miles of dirt—still loving the ride and bike (I’m the second rider in the pic). I bought it used and have a couple of upgrades I want to make: replace the Ultegra RD-8000 with the GRX equivalent with the clutch and a light BTLOS wheelset with new Gravel King SS tires. Funny, I was expecting the same color as an Ascent or something oranger.
This is a nice combo. It made me think of the Dawes Atlantis too. That bike wasn't popular but it had a light blue to dark blue fade. That would be another cool combo. |

I love the green, and especially Eli's build. Just class all around.
Someone talk me out of one of these. I have a Checkpoint I'm really happy with both on and off-road - it's my only drop-bar bike. Tell me that the chainstays on the Outback are too long and the ride is plush but not sharp on singletrack corners. Tell me that it won't fit my preferred offroad 27.5 x 2.2 setup. Tell me that the tubing is spaghetti on snappy road climbs. |

Lol. I think you’re asking to be talked out of one at the wrong place. Those of us with these Outbacks have already bellied up to Tom Ritchey’s bar and downed a pitcher or two of the Kool-Aid. I’m sure your checkpoint is a good and capable bike—but I’ve never ridden one so I can’t really compare the handling. I will say that this Outback, and the Ascent that I owned before it, are two of my favorite all-around-fun-to-ride bikes of the many that I’ve owned over the last 30 years. Ritchey
Hoping to snag one coming up soon, I seem to be in between sizes, M or L at 5'10" with 33" inseam but at 66 not so flexible? Should I go L and maybe 90mm stem?

Would recommend L with the shorter stem for sure. The integrated headset also adds some stack that I don’t think is reflected in the geo chart.
