Funny USPS tracking
TL;DR version:
Ordered a stem on eBay 10 days ago. Seller is in Madison WI, less than 100 miles from home. Since then it has gone twice to the USPS main distribution center (Palatine IL) before they send it back the exact same route it came from. Seller confirmed the correct shipping address. Glad this is not a grail bike/frame that you can't wait to get delivered. I sold a vintage bike frame to a guy in Pittsburgh.
Then watched it go from Cape Cod, to a distribution center in Connecticut, to Martha's Vineyard, back to the distribution center and then off to PA. Why they put it on a boat and sent it in exactly the wrong direction to a small island is beyond me... Maybe it was a jedi mindgame by NHAero!

Mostly I've always been fond of our post office. For this item, not so much. Must be the plague plaguing them.

I’ve got a package that was cleared by customs on May 2 and has been silent since. USPS claims they never got it from customs, customs claims they sent it down the conveyor on May 2.
I also had a package go from New York, to Virginia, to New York, to Florida, to New York, and then finally proceeded to Iowa. Mid way through this game of ping-pong, the tracking history was wiped clean and did not show this backtracking.

I once had USPS refuse to put something in my mailbox and leave their little pink slip.
I went to the post office to pick it up. They couldn't find it. I come back a couple times, no luck. A few days after that, it gets marked 'return to sender' in tracking. They finally realize that it was actually at a different post office than what the pink slip said. They claim there's no way to get the RTS'd package delivered once sent back, but that they would talk to the office on the other end about free shipping. A month goes by without it making it back to sender. Then it randomly shows up in my mailbox, RTS label and all. Fun times.

If the backlog is really that big, they need to communicate it. Buyers, sellers, and PayPal all have a mess to sort out due to their complete lack of communication. My shipping times have been all over the place these past few months, some packages I get in 2 days, others take 4 weeks. I'm not buying things from small independent sellers that do their own shipping either. edit-I bought a pair of blacksmith tongs at the time of my original post and I JUST NOW got them.

I ordered some books from Dundee, Il. They were shipped on the 14th, sat in Carol Stream for a week, took a day and a half to leave Elk Grove this morning. So two weeks to go 25 miles. Wonder how long it’ll take to make it to southern Illinois.
Local PO says it’s because it’s media mail, not the overload.
