OT (sorta): Hitch Hotel

Thought of Angry when I saw this. Might be fun for hitting different Rambles around the PNW. Interesting concept for light camping though I think I might want to see some long term reviews on how buttoned up that is in different weather conditions.

That doesn’t look at its best behind a https://vistabule.comModel Y, which I also have. My muse is a Vistabule trailer, from Minnesota. Pretty premium but handmade trailer and available with a 1UP bike rack attachment.

PS - Still have no idea why, when I insert a link, it goes wherever it wants. That’s supposed to be at the end of the post.

Meh. Go all the way with a camper van if you have the disposable income, or just get a good big tent and a good inflatable mattress where set up takes 15 minutes instead of 5, and you can have much more flexibility where you position it away from the road. I wouldn't want to drag that thing down a Forest Service maintained road or drive at freeway speeds with a compact car or sedan. And if you're towing with a larger vehicle, there's better options.

I'm with @zenmotion on this one. Grab a tent of good quality and size, learn how to set it up, and then sleep on a cot inside the tent if sleeping on the actual ground (with a groundpad!) bothers you. Massively cheaper, you can go more places, and you don't get hit with the MPG penalty of a traiiler or rooftop tent.

That’s what I do and for reasons I can’t figure out, it doesn’t go where I put the cursor.

I'd just buy a TNF Wanowa which sleeps 8 and costs about $500 on sale. . .

else I think I'd like a 1970's era pop-up camper . That way I can put my canoe on top and haul around.

After spending a few days in wet weather; having an enclosed place to relax and sleep up off the ground; away from creepy crawly things is golden.

Last night I spent in a tent I got harassed by a raccoon scratching at my tent walls all night. What I would have given for a shotgun that night…

I know I’m “soft”, but I’ve had very few good nights sleep in a tent.

Whereas I've had many. Some of the best nights of sleep in my life, in fact.

I totally get wanting an alternative to a tent, but the price of some of these little teardrops, roof top tents, pick up campers and so on is just egregious.

Nothing "soft" or "hard" about it, just takes a little practice and trial and error with the right gear. Just keep your food out of the tent and away from critters. My worst camping experiences have been "car camping" in campgrounds with the "creepy crawly things" being loud yahoos with all night bonfires, booze (and guns), with latecomers driving around after bedtime with noisy rigs looking for an empty spot when the place is full, a common scenario in the West, where I'm happy to have the ability to pitch away from the worst of it with a tent. Camping = less is more.
