Mail has a tendency to do this, and download your whole account mailbox then store locally if it can. Definitely a good spot for cleanup

I'm a big fan of CleanMyMacX from MacPaw. I use it on the machine I'm typing this on as well as all of the computers at my agency (14 various Macs). I run a cleanup once a week and it does a great job of keeping things clean.
