It's been too long since I've ridden the river trails. They were iced over for much of last winter and they were flooded for most of the summer. It was nice to be back.

There's nothing technical about the trails along the Minnesota River bottoms—just a nice, beautiful flow. I was surprised to see so few other riders out there this afternoon on such an ideal day with little wind and a temp just below freezing.

Studded, Finally!

I've been enjoying my fat bike as much as ever lately. The weather has been ideal in the Minneapolis area and the trails are superb with a nice base of snow. Here's a little of my ride today with my newly studded tires.

I made it out early this morning before the temp warmed above freezing. This is some video from along the Minnesota River bottoms near the MSP airport. The trail is mostly ice now due to some mild temps (just above freezing) and a high volume of riders on the trail lately but I was rolling with studs and they did a great job of keeping me upright.

River Bottoms Wednesday

Our trails along the Minnesota River bottoms are experiencing a makeover along the north side as construction crews plow a walking path (which looks more like a road) through the heart of our trails. Lots of people are upset about it but I'm sure we'll manage to establish new dirt trails before long.

Great pictures. A truly special place.

Disappointed to hear they are disrupting what has been for decades. It's an active flood plain and efforts to further gentrify the space seems like a bad idea from a maintenance perspective alone. The ghost lines on the trees above your head shows you how high the water can get.

Have not ridden down there as much these past couple years as more flooding than the past, but for many years that valley in the heart of the city was my escape.

Thanks, Kingpin. Yes, it's sad to see how they've cut right through the heart of the trail, and as you said, it's underwater so much of the time during the warmer months. The idea of a paved trail makes little sense to most of us. If we could get a bridge over Nine Mile Creek that would be great.

Gone Exploring

I took to some trails I haven't ridden in a few years. Two "trail closed" signs detoured me onto snowmobile trails instead. I don't think I'll make a habit of that but it made for a fun ride.

Louisville Swamp Ride

I rode with the guys from Michael's Cycles in Chaska this morning. It's been a few years. I don't know why it took that long for me to show up again. Lots of fun.

Louisville Swamp Ride

This was from last Saturday morning's ride. The ice on the lake should've been plenty thick but we had one of our riders break through with his front wheel. Every other lake around the area has cars and trucks traversing it to get to their fish houses.

Leap Day Gravel Ride

It was an awesome day to be out riding gravel in the Minneapolis south metro area today. There were still a few sketchy areas of ice where the road was shaded but overall it was excellent!
