I have used it and did not like it much. I needed it for an oversized crown race on an Enve fork and I had to help hold it still with my hand. Also if you don’t have monster grip strength you struggle to get it right enough on some fork combos in my opinion.

This style works fine for occasional use - beats a screwdriver.

I had a STUBBORN Campy Athena crown race (turns out there was some OEM paint under there, maybe that gummed it up even more). I used one of these bearing pullers, two threaded rods, washers, nuts and a wood block up on the steerer top drilled for the rods. Alternated tightening each side until it finally came off, but man was it bent out of shape before the crown race finally gave up. (edit: I tried screwdriver, one of those U shaped crown race removers, tried hammering on the bearing puller... nothing budged it).

I made the mistake of installing a tight crown race fairly recently on a new fork (last winter). It wasn't fitting at all, forget the dimensions but it wasn't that close. Took advantage of a 5degF day here in CO to let the fork get nice and cold outside, put the race in a warm mug of water, and then they slid together pretty well. God forbid I ever need to take it off!

I have a hard time using those without scuffing paint somewhere.

The Park Tool crown race puller is cheaper and probably easier to get.

I think the original Park Tool CRP-1, based on a JA Stein design, was a better and easier to use tool. BTW, JA Stein is still making tools.

Sorry I disappeared on this, but I didn't realize Park had redesigned their crown race tool.

TBH, I will just buy another King crown race instead of trying to reusing the old one.

I was in this pickle over the summer. Was selling a frame/Enve fork and the CK baseplate wouldnt come off with my usual means of a flathead screwdriver. I called a shop and they wanted $30 just to remove the crown race off the fork... yeah.....

They've got to pay for those fancy $300 crown race removal tools. Back in the day all it took was a simply U shaped brace to bang the race off, but carbon forks put paid to that.

I had a shop totally butcher removing one over the summer. So I don’t mind spending the money to have my own tools.

So?

Cheaper than ruining your fork.

So far I always had luck holding a short piece of 1.25" PVC pipe against the crown and hit it with a hammer.
Need to work around the sides of the race so it does not jam.

I guess I should have typed out what I meant. I was just making that point that its cheaper to just buy a brand new CK base plate.
