Securing MTB Bar Mitts

I have the basic Bar Mitts for my MTB bike which has regular Ergon grips (no bar ends).

That velcro strap on the inside doesn't mate very well with the Ergon grips. The Ergons are big and tapered so the vecro just has nothing to hold.
I have some ideas but thought I'd see what other people may be doing to keep their Mitts in place.

I've not faced that problem myself, but I wonder if you could extend the straps with a bit more Velcro.
