Using an older FD with Campy 12?

Anyone using an older 10 or 11sp FD with Campy 12? Any issues? How does it shift?

Makoti it might not work. You can put a shilmano FD in a 10 speed brifter but you cant put a 10 speed campy record in a 11 speed campy group.

If you look at the FD's the cable attachment lever is longer in the 11 speed, I imagine the 12 is an evolution of the 11 speed FD, so probably by association of facts wont work either.

Even the way you set up the FD in 10 speed and 11 speed is different because the levers work in another way, at least with chorus they got rid off of the ratchet, I imagine the 12 does the same than 11... would surprise me that they went back to ratchet tho....

U lose nothing trying and let me know tho

I ran all of my 11 spd Campy bikes with a 10 spd FD... can't help you as to whether that translates to 12 spd, though...

It works? thats an interesting thing... remember tried a chorus 11 with cant remember the generation, I think the later one after 2015 with a 10 fd and the lever was off because did not have ratchet, it was like a 4 click lever.

Which generation 11 do you have?

???

The 11s front der is optimized for the 11s shifter and if adjusted well, 3 clicks to big ring. I suspect the 12s dimensions are SO close to 11s, front der wise, the 11s front der will work fine with 12s LH shifter..SR/Record?Chorus..Ultrashift...

Altho fewer 'clicks' in 11s LH levers, they work the same. Samo for 12s..PowerShift/Escape DO work different but the 3 top, same..

The bike I'm thinking of converting has an older 10s. Think that would be the same? Just trying to decide how much I can re-use on a gravel experiment.

Older 10 speed is less likely to work, since those shifters had many clicks and could operate a triple. All you can do is try it.

The new Chorus 12 FD works really well.

Like Dave said above..the 11s and 12s are designed, with 11s/12s chainring spacing, and 11s and 12s LH shifters, to move the chain to big ring in 3 clicks..Using a 10s front der, doubt you can do it in 3 but there are more clicks in the lever..PLUS, newer 2015+ LH shifter is limited to 3 click to get to smaller ring, with a mechanical stop, then 2-3 more clicks for trim so..it may take 2 sweeps with 10s front der to get the chain to small ring but...sure, try it. Campagnolo LH shifters(8/9/10/11/12s), Ultrashift, very forgiving...

Cool. Thanks guys. Sounds like it'd be worth the money to just upgrade the thing.
