OT: Which weather forecast site do you trust most? (Eclipse)
Good to know for normal use, but I'm trying to decide on Eclipse location. My plans are drive to Arkansas, do some riding in Bentonville, and catching it in NE Ar. Forecasts are not good, and I can't wait until 2 days before to decide. Thinking of bagging that and heading to Ohio, where I can get a place right on the edge of Totality. But it is Ohio. Near the lake. In April.
Any sites you trust to be right-ish a week out? |

I doubt you're going to do much better than the national weather service. https://www.weather.gov/.

Use the National Weather Service website for the location you have in mind. The 7 day forecast and the textual forecast (under “Forecast Discussion”).
Here is the site for Bentonville: https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...2=-94.2048&e=1 All the commercial providers get their data and models from the NWS and none provide more useful forecasts IMO. Notably they will usually provide a more honest margin of error. The Apple weather app is a good example of terrible - it seems to just spit out whatever the GFS deterministic model produced for a given day. I think Weather Underground takes a similar approach. |

Not a forecast but this supposedly gives real time. Click on the clouds button.

I like being able to drill into individual weather stations on wunderground.com.
Overall a good site but their app got crapified since IBM bought the site. (Not even sure they still own it but whatever) I often look at several weather websites. But a lot of my use is just looking at the real time conditions before I go for a ride. |

I'm a fan of the National Weather Service, Ventusky, and Wunderground, but also Windy.com, Weather.com, and USAirnet.com ...and if I'm planning a bike ride, I'll often consult all six! |

I came across this one, which gives data from 4 different models.

I just recently discovered Weather Underground. The "10-day" tab provides a graph of cloud cover, and much more: https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/ca/los-angeles Last edited by dgauthier; 04-01-2024 at 02:19 PM. |

Great thread. I really liked Dark Sky before Apple purchased. Still trying to find a replacement that shows local up to minute rain, and detailed forecast information.

Come up to New England, the one day it appears we have totally sunny weather.
