Co-worker (remote) was 25 miles from the epicenter and had picture frames come off the wall. Brother working in NYC said it felt like a subway underneath the building.

Felt it this morning in Northern NJ about 50 miles from the epicenter and also an aftershock around 6 PM. The morning event had a very loud rumbling here, with lots of shaking.

Wife and kids were home (about a 9 mile drive from epicenter) and I was at work in Denville. Felt it bad for about 20-30 seconds at work and was very loud, wife and kids were freaked out big time. They thought the house was falling apart. Felt the other 4.0 tremor at around 6pm too. CRAZY!

The Washington Post has a good article about East coast quakes--apparently the tremors are felt for longer distances than on the West coast,
Quote:
It has long been known that earthquake shaking travels farther on the East Coast than on the West Coast.
The USGS says earthquakes can be felt over an area 10 times larger on the East Coast. On the West Coast, “the rocks are warmer, so they are more active, they’ve experienced activity more recently — so they’re warmer and will attenuate or absorb some of the seismic energy as they pass through that rock,” Carchedi said.

By contrast, the rocks are cold and brittle on the East Coast, and they transfer seismic energy much better than the West Coast.
Some interesting stuff in this article (gift):

And I did feel the aftershock -- not as dramatic, but enough to rattle the same sliding door as the original episode.
