....Baker City. I drove through there once on my way back to Portland after a river trip. We ate some of the best local ice cream I've ever had and stayed in a motel right next to a family who was just finishing up riding across country (E to W). They had a four-person bike -- that's right, four-person bike -- and were pulling a very small trailer. They were tired, and tired of answering questions, but we talked for a little while.

I liked Baker City; it reminded me of the small cities in the midwest where I grew up.
