An Afternoon Well Spent

I spent the afternoon on my Orbea Oiz M20 mountain bike. We had fun as I indulged the boy within me.

Autumn Gravel

My gravel bike finally got the nod this afternoon. It's been somewhat neglected the past few months in favor of my road bike and my MTB. It was nice to be on it again. There are still some trees displaying autumn colors. A brisk wind made for a cool ride in my usual summer kit with a light upper base layer. Still, an awesome day to be out riding.

Ha! I can see why you would say that, my friend. 😁

Actually, that's Sophia. It's been at least a year since I've seen her. I wrote a little about her toward the end of this blog post.

What an Awesome Day to Ride!

I spent the afternoon on my mountain bike, taking in some of the last warmish weather of the year here in the Minneapolis area. I made a slight detour on my way to the Minnesota River bottoms trails and make a jaunt through Lebanon Mountain Bike Park in Eagan. It was an awesome day to be on a bike! 🥂

Video from my ride

The Church of the Winding Path

I spent part of this morning and afternoon riding the trails along the Minnesota River bottoms south of Minneapolis, Mn. It's such a meditative place for me to ride. No worries of the world follow me there. I love how that works.

My Shadow and Me

Three weeks into November and we're still enjoying temps warm enough to allow me to wear shorts on my rides here in the Minneapolis area. I'll take it!

Shorts? Whoa, hard man.. I'm a bit south of you and was pretty well wintered up. Of course I was starting out into the wind with gusts up to 30mph. Wind chill, I think was about 35. It looks like you were sheltered some. I always go with the MN old man rule, "Under 60 degrees, cover the knees!" But, yes, I'll take it.

I'm fairly slender but I heat up quickly. The only problem area I have are my toes. Keeping them warm is my biggest struggle. My coldest ride to date is a 90 minute ride at the river bottoms in -17º f (-27º c) temps. I was mostly fine except for my toes. That was 7 or 8 years ago. I mostly ride the worlds of Zwift when it's that cold now. Where are you located?

I'm riding down near Rochester. Google windiest cities in USA and Rochester comes shows up in the top ten on a lot of lists. I'm not sure what today will bring. Seems like falling temps through the day. South wind with maybe a rapid switch to NW winds. Maybe there will be a "calm" window as it switches.

Our daughter and her husband live in Rochester. I love the city and the area. I wish it was a little closer because it looks like there's some awesome riding to be had, both gravel and pavement.

River Bottoms Saturday!

I rode with some friends along the Minnesota River trails this morning in temps hovering around freezing. It was a beautiful morning to be out. We have lots of snowbirds here who winter in warmer climes but I enjoy the change of seasons. Snow and sustained temps can't be too far off. I'm looking forward to riding these same trails on my fatty when that happens.

Snow Day!

Where was this snow for Global Fat Bike Day last Saturday!? We finally received more than a dusting of snow here in the Minneapolis area today. The temperature was between 12 - 15ºf (-11 - -9ºc). I scrapped my other plans and loaded my fat bike onto my car and headed for the Minnesota River bottoms for a romp in the snow. You cannot do this kind of riding and not feel like a kid again. This works really well with my goal of never growing up!

Snow Day!
