PSA:Scammer Alert!

Forumites:

I know most of you are savvy internet users, but i have received two complaints in the last 24 hours about a zero post user who has tried to scam them, originating from WTB posts.

I banned that user (peterdaniels), but that obviously doesnt mean the scammer will not just create another account and prey on other users.

be aware.

dont pay people in moneygram or itunes gift cards or anything else other than paypal if you dont know them.

be careful.

Additionally - we all know this, but keep an eye on the more "vulnerable" folks around you. the elderly, etc who might fall victim to these kinds of phone and mail scams. with the holidays around - the scammers are out to get money out of generous, good natured people.

also - report here if this has happened to you and the username of the guilty!

I have had two folks respond to my FS posts this week, both had zero posts, and both dissapeared after I said I would take payment by PayPal....

Coincidence?

Peter Daniels PM'd me too on a WTB post. The email address he provided was

pattersonkevin608@gmail.com

Plugging that into a convenient search engine found a thread in an archery forum about a potential scam with almost the exact same MO and text.

The reply from that email asked for a Moneygram to

312 N Faring Rd,
Los Angeles CA

Which belongs to a $70,000,000 estate which happens to be for sale.

And yes, I'm writing all this so the next guy who searches gets these hits.

Sadly, It will be awhile before I find my 10s Veloce flat bar shifters.

Same here on a wtb post. Peterdaniels providing another seller who had the item and I could, “Thank him later.” The other person asked for a moneygram at that same address. A lot of grammatical errors in reply as well. NOPE.

Sent him some money. First time I've been scammed. This is what I get for being so busy with work and a new house that I didn't have my wits about me. At least it wasn't a huge sum.

Many thanks to Shoota to reach out to various posters who had dealings with peterdaniels. He prevented me from potentially being scammed.
