OT: London ( heathrow ) connection time?

Hi friends,

Curious if 1 hr 45 min is enough to connect ( Milan final destination ) I've been to London 2-3 times but never connected to anywhere from there.

Boston - London ( LHR ) - Milan ( Malpensa )

Thanks

ps. It likely matters that it'd be 4 of us with 2 kids ages 11 and 15.

It's been a while since I connected through LHR, but I did it a few times, and I recall that it sucked.

I allocate at least 2 hours for connections on international flights, and that's just for myself.

Depends...

Do you know which terminal in Heathrow you'll be arriving and departing from? Extra headache if you have to move between terminals.

Also, any idea if you'll have to clear UK customs even if the UK isn't your final destination? Post Brexit, wonder if it is easier to transfer from UK to EU now.

As someone else pointed out if you have to switch terminals your time limit is pushing it, if there's anyway to get a later flight after landing at Heathrow might be worth considering. This may help a little: https://www.heathrow.com/at-the-airp...ween-terminals

Flyertalk is a reliable site for opinions on this.
(My second favorite forum after this one)

There are airline specific threads, terminal specific threads, etc one example is

Once you identify the correct sub forum, post your question for feedback

As other people have said- are both flights at the same terminal? If so, you can make it, but from experience flying with younger kids, I think budgeting more time is probably a preferred option.

Even though there are a lot of flights from LHR to MILAN, the hassle of missing the connection and the stress about possibly missing the connection will stress you, and your family probably will not enjoy the first leg of the flight with you.
At least that is how my personality works.

Time of day matters too and time of year. FOG actually works in your favour as the flight will land, and the departure will be delayed so you have a buffer.

3 or 4 hrs on the ground at LHR is not that bad.
