The hottest day in the history of France

The Tour is going to be hot ...

... since accurate records were kept.

Maybe they'll break out those ice vests again for the time trials!

Two of our good friends are in the middle of a 17-day vacation in Spain. They haven't posted anything so I hope they haven't melted. If I was there I would have booked a flight from Spain to the UK or Ireland where it's been mid-70s F.

The women's WC is currently ongoing in France. This is the immediate sporting concern.

Pfffft. I was in Kuwait when it recorded the highest temperature ever in Asia back in July 2016 but it was dry heat so the real feel was like 48 degrees C. The actual temperature was 53.9C

Just for some context: It's only predicted to be 109F here today. The average was only 70F on my ride this AM.

Go figure.

Plus, most people I know in Arizona have AC, which is not very common in Europe.

The cities are breaking the records set in the summer of 2003, when 15,000 people in France died.

That was a hot year for the Tour, too. All the people on our tour who came from temperate areas were in serious difficulty.

And the European death toll was more than 70,000 that year

The concern I have for PBP is that the place we are staying probably doesn't even have fans, much less A/C

Dry heat makes a difference! it's not that here, but in FoCo today its 96 with 12% humidity, heat index is 91! Managed to get in a nice 8 mile run this afternoon without any discomfort.
Coming from upstate NY where 96 would come with 60% humidity, I would be done for the day after a 8 mile run.
