Maybe he should start looking for a gravel bike like the rest of The Paceline Quitters of late. Heh.

Not always true. Twenty-five years ago, I had what most considered to be a great job in corporate aviation. Our flight department had four light/medium jets, a “hot rod” C90 King Air (uprated engines), and a Baron 58 (which surprisingly, only the three most experienced pilots flew - single pilot IFR in the northeast US is challenging!). I was director of flight ops and flew the Citation III and Baron. I left that position for a mid-level position in defense/aerospace engineering. The pay was slightly lower, but the lifestyle change was enormous. Not only did I get to spend time with my wife (and soon a daughter), but the security and job opportunities were much better. Extra bonus: I had much more time for cycling. Now I’m looking forward to retirement (and according to my wife, grandkids would be nice in 8-10 years...).

I'll keep an eye on eBay for a "gently used" Giant Propel.

Good for him to quit the circus on his terms. It is unfortunate that it was played out in the media so publicly.

My friend quit pro racing by pulling over during the Tour de Toona and taking a nap in a field. It was just time I guess.
