Removing logos from painted aluminum
I have a black Fizik seat post and I want to remove the Fizik logos from it. Can I use goof off on this or will that also remove the flat black paint on the seat post?
thanks all |

Many times the black is anodized. I have removed many logos from stems and seatposts with aceton without damaging the black. Try it on a small part that won't be seen built first though.

I was using GoofOff to remove road tar. At some point I wiped the top of my Ritchey stem and the WCS logo was partially removed. I suppose it would be easy to erase all of it if I wanted to.

Acetone would be better than Goof-off?

light polishing with minimal acetone for about 45+ seconds worked on something, i forgot what.
Wear some nitrile gloves, so you don't get any on your skin. |

Jasco or acetone. With acetone, soak a paper towel and wrap the paint with the acetone drenched towel to keep acetone on the paint... Removes faster with less solvent that way.

On that note, how does one remove the ugly decals on a Wound Up disc CX fork? They've been damaged from a bike rack, but should've been removed right from the start. I just don't want to damage the carbon...

Don't use acetone right off the bat. Acetone is very strong. Try nail polish remover first; it contains a lower percentage of acetone and is less likely to harm the black finish. You could also test your seatpost first by trying the acetone on the INSIDE of the seatpost, if it is anodized black as well.
