Yep, I have seen the core sample issue twice in the last 2 years. Doesn't really take a sample, but leaves a much bigger mark without a plug.

In the 1980's and 1990's bars without plugs were called "appelboor" (apple drill) in the Dutch peloton for what they do to your thighs in a crash
