or just go to Portugal where for some reason has been a beautiful not very hot summer. And they probably just stay there because its amazing there.

Go figure.
Mornings have been nice out west. It seemed like it was a good 10° hotter when we lived in Scottsdale. Next door to a golf course and farm land is big advantage compared to surrounded by pavement.

That's going to make for interesting wine vintages.

I wonder whether the heat works to the US women’s team’s advantage. I would expect that they have spent more time training and playing in heat than any of their European rivals.

Having spent several vacations in Europe during heat waves, I can attest that it is a public health crisis. Even buildings that are air conditioned often don’t have the capacity to deal with these temperatures.

Those high temps will be brutal.
I remember when I was stationed at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX in the early 90s. I went for a ride after work, a short 20 mile round trip ride to the town of Burkburnett and return.

I failed to check the weather before I left. I had a wind that was blowing about 15-20 mph that would be a headwind on the return. About 5 miles in I had already gone through 2 water bottles and most of my Camelback. I saw a bank sign that had the temperature that said 113 degrees. I made it about 8 miles when I stopped at a farm equipment shop that was about to close. I was wiped out and out of fluids and knew it would be near impossible for me to make it back. I asked to use their phone to call my wife for a ride. Thankfully she came to rescue me.

The temps were horrible and the wind made it feel like I was riding through a blast furnace! Some of the worst conditions I have ever ridden in. I'll take rain, hail, blizzard and 15 degree temps anytime...but that heat and wind was so painful!

I was in France during a heatwave they had in 2013 ( I think temps were around 100 deg or so). I bought a 4 day subway pass in Paris but wouldn't use it. The smell down there was a wee bit too "gamey" for me. Ended up walking 10 miles a day, which was better anyway.

You're doing Paris Brest Paris? This needs its own thread.
