Giro Spoiler Discussion

Mostly great start to stage one, really exciting finish, although the most obvious guy won. Wonder if he can hold it through the time trial.

Sucks to see Caleb Ewan crash again, but it looked like he was just going so deep that he straight up rode into the wheel in front of him.

Such a weird crash from Ewan. You must be right though, fully on the limit and brain/body not working properly. Hope he's OK.

If MVDP has put some training time into his TT (and his Strava suggests he has) we could be in for a beastly performance. He got 5th in the Tour ITT last year after claiming he "doesn't train much on the time trial bike." It's not like he doesn't have the engine and it's only 9.2km.

I forgot how young Girmay is — only 22! What a talent.

No kidding - I'd like to say that Ewan's running into him prevented him from edging out MVDP - but I don't think he had a clear path to shoulder ahead at that point..

Still, nothing more annoying that someone buzzing your back tire or stepping on your heel. Not like it was Ewan's desire either though. Things happen.

Some of this could (might) be Girmay slowing a wee bit - not with any intent to cause harm - while deciding if there was another match to burn before the line. The actual final surge hadn’t begun yet.

Ceramic Speed OPW at the Giro. Per the UCI it's a derailleur cage, not a fairing.

That is really interesting to see. I would have guessed higher peak power on the finishing sprint. And his heart rate is so controlled — most of the time it’s below 140 and doesn’t even go above 160 until the final climb and sprint when it peaks. I’m over 160 just trying to hold above 20 mph on the flats 😂

I haven't watched the TT stage yet but saw the results. How the F did Yates win a TT? Nice to see Dumoulin on a podium too. Velogames hasn't updated yet, but I have three or four in the top 10. Boom.

I think Yates has always been a good time trialist. The course had a lot of turns and some uphill so the traditional TT guys did not do so well.

BX has done a lot of upgrading this season plus a lot more aero work on yates.
Equipment is more aero, better tech all around and $3500 skinsuit.
Yates built confidence and all that combined, a fantastic win for him

I never seem to be able to see much in these strava links. Is it because I'm dinosaur that doesn't have or use strava?

Yes, if you make an account and then click on the analysis tab, you can see his speed, power, heart rate, at every single point along the race also his times on various segments.
