Campagnolo square taper BB ?

So, I've now got two very nice Campagnolo silver groupsets for use but both have British square taper bottom brackets.* I thought I had an Italian in my stash but can't seem to find it.**

From my understanding both the 9 speed chorus and 10 speed record take 102mm spindle length.* Not seeing these available at any on my usual sources.**

Curious about one thing and my googling didn't find an answer last night.* Can I use the cartridge off one of these and just replace the British "cup" with Italian ends if I can find those?**

Anyone know of a quality replacement brand that might work?**

We probably need OldSpud to weigh in for the definitive answer on the cup swap, but my impression is that the cups can be swapped--the axle/bearing are the same for both 102mm BB.

I haven't been in the market for a while so I'm surprised that they are not still available new. I have used Token (taiwan) and they worked fine) and there is always Phil if you want to go upmarket...

not sure about the spindle length, but from what ol'p has said in the past, the cups are interchangeable.

and i havent tried myself, but I hear that "Token" brand BB's on ebay works pretty well.

I run Phil Wood 102 square taper on all my bikes. Never had an issue.

Did have a couple of Campy BBs that got "gravelly" over time. Not like the good old days where you could just take a NR bottom bracket apart, give it a thorough clean, and put it back together, adjusting to silky smooth/no play.

Yes, the Campagnolo cups are interchangeable. The complete Chorus bottom brackets used to be available from the usual sources, I haven't looked lately.

For the last Campy square taper crankset I had, I used a sealed bearing BB. I think it was a Token or similar, and it worked perfectly. Just make sure you get one with the right specs. That was about 6-8 years ago, so I haven't kept up with options or availability since then.

Same spindle length (102) for Record and Chorus, 9 and 10 speed.

Cups are removable/swappable. There's a part number difference between 9 and 10 speed cups but I don't think there's an actual difference (besides possibly the logo and model printed on outside of drive cup). You can find part numbers and details on Campy's website: Documentation-spare parts catalog - 2000 and 1999.

I've used 9 and 10 speed Record and Chorus bb's interchangeably with no problems.

The 102mm bottom bracket for Record and Chorus are interchangeable between the cranks. So are the cups but the cups weren't available aftermarket. So it might be tough to find them unless someone has a dead bb laying around. I can get you a brand new one if need one.

You may be able to get away with using a Shimano 103 mm spindle with Italian cups. This place (Modern Bike) claims that there are separately sold cups for the IRD unit.

I thought the Shimano taper was different than the Campy taper.

Www.bike24.com lists the Chorus model in stock at a very reasonable cost.....might as well do this right....

No, please don't. As someone mentioned, JIS taper is different; could ruin your crank.
