Best racing shoe under $150 (new or slightly used)

Any recommendations on a racing shoe that is new or slightly used under $150 and does not have a lot of arch support. Rider has minimal pronation. My research has some of the lower end carbon shoes below:

Bontrager Velocis
Pearl Izumi Men's ELITE Road IV
Giro Trans E70
Specialized Expert
Mavic Cosmic Elite
Fizik R4B UOMO]
Shimano RC7

I thought of like four or five sarcastic ways to respond. Then I looked at your name and recalled my middle school industrial arts(woodshop) teacher, Mr. Mccomish. He was fond of saying "no horseplay" in his thick Boston accent, and he instilled a sense of rigor in each of us before we were allowed to mix with the tools. Mr. Mccomish would tell the rider to, "measure twice and cut once." Moral being: only one fits best.

+1 on this

The "best" cycling shoe is one that fits well, regardless of how much you have to pay.

Assuming it fits well, the Shimano RC7 is a lot of shoe for the money. It also has a flat arch, room forefoot and nice construction. I went with the RC9 but could easily see myself picking up RC7s for a second shoe in the rotation.

I have these and agree. However, they scuff up easily. The “finish†is sorta printed on and just scratches off. A bit strange.

Giro trans have worked well for me, minimal arch support and have held up well for 4 seasons.

Shimano R320 and possibly R321 on ebay. The new pairs will come with an insole that has adjustable arch wedges.
