TS2.2 Truing stand question...

How do people generally set up this stand, bolt it to a 2x6 or something similar, or buy the official Park tilting stand for it (which is $60 and made of plastic)?

Pics welcome. Still too busy to really get started on winter projects but I want to be prepared...

looking at the stand, a 2x6 would be no good.

if you had the space, bolted directly to the work bench would be my preference, otherwise a nice think sheet of 3/4" plywood, cut about 2'x2' would work nicely, maybe stained and clearcoated as to not absorb oils, grease, etc.

At one home I have it bolted to a wooden stool. At the other I mounted it to a piece of scrap butcher block, and have it on my workspace.

Hard to tell under all of the dust, but mine is bolted to an old cutting board 16”x12”. Has rubber feet on the bottom.
I find it steady without being unwieldy.

Henry, looks like you have the plastic tilting base bolted to a piece of wood. Are you happy with it? The tilting looks useful.

I've got my TS-2 in my bench vise. Holds it securely, but allows me to use the bench vise as a bench vise if I need it

I may_ have a 2.2 base that I doubt I'll ever use if someone wants it for shipping

*I think it's a 2.2 base. Could be a -2 base. Either way: pay postage...

I do find the tilting base useful, especially in that the position can be adjusted as the stand is moved to different (height, standing, sitting) spots.

I don't have a picture that shows our Park stand clearly at our frame shop just west of Kiev in Ukraine. It is surrounded by frame making equipment. The fork fixture is in front of it. However if you look close you can see it is mounted to the back of some kind of rectangle board.

Mine is mounted to a heavy plastic block, similar to Trex decking, with rubber feet at each corner. Works great.

I have a TS-2. I just use a couple quick clamps to attach it to my work bench when needed. If that picture above is of a TS-2.2 base, fixing it to the bench would be even easier.

when I had one, I bolted it to a spare shelf from a cabinet....about a 16 x 16 x 1 piece of particle board. Countersink nuts and washers so it sits flat....

I do like the cutting board idea

The tilting base is very useful, almost necessary.

I must admit it's nothing I've ever considered. Can you elaborate on why it's so useful? Again, I have the less featureful TS-2, so have never had a tilt capability.

TS-2s and TS-2.2s are basically the same stand. Arms are longer on the TS-2.2 and the pointers are more curved and longer. You can retro-fit the 2.2 arms on the 2 if you true a lot of 29er wheels. AMHIK

I would think some form of wedge (think v-brake washers) to tilt the stand and bolt it straight would work without the tilting base.

In order to get proper sight on the wheel while truing.
