Rode by a silver 300 SL parked in front of a bar in the West Hollywood entertainment district today. A classic!

While riding in Italy a few years ago, four of the many obscure (to me) cars that day.

No doubt a gullwing is among the most beautiful cars ever made. Random thoughts spurred by donevwil's photos…
- Interesting that the gullwing is sans front bumper, not sure I've ever seen one like that; - Not an expert, but I think the Porsche is the rarest bird among them (maybe it's the Ferrari?); - Love the Alfa, especially the grillwork. |

Very thin connection here, but as I was preparing to lose to my kids at Mario Kart, my 15-year-old daughter chose to put King Boo in the silver Gullwing because it's "super cool." Dad has provided a bit of positive influence.

Yes, I've seen it. It should be called Ford v Shelby, though.

Quite a clever-designed Golf/Rabbit I competitor. I always liked the design but its mechanical imperfection was notorious, as was the lack of rust resistance. This one is the Bertone-made convertible which was a factory option, even though the soft roof makes one think of a hobbyist's job. The Bertone bage may have been orinigal on certain markets Amazing to see one of these in that condition, original rims and all...

I saw my first 2020 Porsche Speedster today at a client's house. Also, at the house today: GT2RS, GT3RS and a Singer. only room for 4 cars at the house.

I have two sightings in the wild:
This was in the early 1990s. I had to go to work on an early Saturday morning. I came off the freeway exit into downtown Seattle all bleary-eyed and looking forward to my first of many cups of coffee. I came to a stop light (Sixth and Union). A glimmer to the left caught my eye. I turned my head slightly and saw a wire wheel. That got my attention. I turned my head all the way to the left and there was a bright red Ferrari 250 GTO. Early in the morning and a bit hung over my first thought was confusion. Hallucination? Kit car? It turned out it was real, as there was an antique car rally leaving from the Sheraton Hotel. There were several other unusual cars lining up to leave for Vancouver that morning. The other experience was in the early 2000s when I saw a prototype BMW 740 cruising through a town in Provence. The new body style was distinctive and was not obscured by the typical camouflage. Nice to have that job. "You, Dietrich, we need some test miles. Take this 740 to Provence for a few days." |
