Winter hat recommendation

My trusty old semi-loose fitting Pearl Izumi hat is threadbare and they no longer make this model. The tight fitting thermal skull caps dig deep into my forehead and give me headaches.

So, any recommendations for something that’s a bit loose fitting and would be good for temps 30-50 degrees? It should be low bulk and will be used mainly when I’m riding above z2 and so generating some body heat.

I picked up one on close out on Ibex's site. It is very nicely made and seems to be warm although I haven't ridden with it yet. I would suggest checking it out. I have also had good luck with my Giro merino wool cap. Worth a look as well.

Assos Fuguhelm Cap is the best winter cycling cap bar none. Doesnt over heat and doesnt under heat, keep your head warm and comfortable over a wide range of temperatures.

Craft does a great winter beanie that's thin, fits under the helmet and keeps the ears warm. Breathes pretty well too and could serve double duty for cross country skiing.

But yeah, the Assos hat is killer.

Keeping my ears warm and comfy on a cold ride is money well spent. I am all for a value but on items like this or a rear light, etc. I’ll spend more to get stuff that works and keeps me warm, safe, and so on. Having cold ears and the headache it produces is miserable to me. YMMV

I have the Craft and like it. Comes in two sizes and the larger size fits my big noggin comfortably.

I've been really happy with the Icebreaker Merino line. I use the super thin one, I think it's called the Chase Beanie, under my helmet, and it doesn't make me look like a mushroom. They have thicker ones as well.

sealskinz

Sealskinz Belgian cycling cap, super warm and wind resistant. Maybe a little to bulky for what you want, though.

Inexpensive option is to look at running caps in a sporting goods store. Picked up a Nike for $10 that is really nice

I'm just gonna misplace it anyway.....

If you're not wanting a visor, I would suggest a Gore Universal SO Windstopper Helmet Hat which is perfect for that temp range. Very comfortable, and my melon is about 60 cm for reference.

none brainer

been wearing this one down to 45 degrees. light, warm, bright, windstopper at the front, looser knit, non-constricting, non-soggy, non spongy, quik drying, ear flaps down or easy up. In black too should you be afraid of brightness:

let me know how much you like it.
