New Underwater Bike Parking at Amsterdam Central Station

I didn't see anything posted on this but I didn't do a super thorough search either. It's been popping up on FB.

Just one video but prob other vids and articles with more coverage.

That is awesome! And here in the states we usually can't even get simple bike lanes that are safe and physically separated from traffic.

Bicycle parking infrastructure in Amsterdam is huge! Massive surface parking areas many acres in size and even dedicated parking barges!

Heard about this on NPR the other day

the segment talked about various efforts to increase public transit train use and how bike-to-the-train was a big deal and common in a few areas in Europe, and hopes to expand such to other areas.
Sadly doesn't seem too likely in most places here. I was trying to think of how they might do similar in the DC metro area--real estate being at a premium near the metro from what I remember, you'd think they'd have to do underground garages if they did something.

But, as the NPR segment interviewee mentioned, a good first step is to simply increase good bike racks with good lighting/surveillance to deter theft at stations.

Back in the 90's I had a brief 6-week rotation at OSHA and rode my bike there. Pretty secure as I passed a guard to get in the garage, but there was single bike rack with 3 slots by the elevator. One slot was occupied by a bike that had a flat and never moved for the 6-weeks. The only other bike I ever saw there was mine. Hopefully, there is a larger rack with more bikes now.
